Spyware is software that collects internet surfing habits as you are online. It can pass your personal data on without you knowing it is even there.
Spyware can get on your computer when you download some free software programs. Spyware stays hidden on your computer and monitors files on your hard drive, looks through your cookies, and on and on. This is usually transferred anonymously but that still isn't very comforting.
I have not found where there is anything illegal about spyware. The fact is that you usually agree for it to be installed on your computer by agreeing to the license agreement when you are downloading software. Please be sure to read all licensing agreements thoroughly before agreeing.
What can be captured by spyware?
* Keystrokes
* Screen Information
* Email logs
* Chat logs
* Internet activity
* Cookies
* Hard drive information
Changes can be made to your computer settings because of spyware such as your home page being set to a new site. Some of the changes can be difficult to change back to the original settings. To get rid of spyware you need a program that can scan and remove it from your computer. Compare anti-spyware programs and find what will be the most effective for you.
