What You Need To Know About Computer Viruses

What, another computer security article? Who needs it? Aren't we tired of all that techie stuff that only geeks can comprehend? Virus my foot! But seriously. Computer security is an important topic and those who neglect it will surely get themselves in trouble sooner or later.

There is much confusion about what exactly a computer virus is. To many people a virus is simply any kind of bad thing that happens to their computer. This would be more or less correct around 1995, but since then several other threats have appeared and using a blanket term like 'virus' for all of them is misleading. Having said that, I don't mean any disrespect to the word 'virus'. After all, it is the granddaddy of all malicious software (or malware for short).

Old School Viruses

At first viruses were rather simple-minded, although dangerous at times. All they wanted was to enter your computer and destroy some data. Their favorite way of

transmission was to attach themselves to otherwise harmless programs.

Worms

As "state of the art" viruses developed, a new breed came to the scene: worms. This charming name is used to describe a type of virus that not only infects the host machine, but also replicates itself over the network. In practice that means that a well-written worm can create real mayhem around the world in a matter of days. It is estimated that damage from some famous worms reaches billions of dollars.

Trojan Horses

Many programs, multimedia or other goodies can be found on the Internet. Often they are free and, let's face it, there are very few things that people like more than free stuff. The trouble with some free software is that it also comes with one or more viruses already included free of charge. Hence the name "Trojan Horse".

Are viruses good for my computer?

Absolutely! If you want to get rid of all that data clogging up your hard drive, a virus is a wonderful solution. If you want your spanking new computer to slow down to a crawl, then a virus is the way to go. If you're lucky, you may even get a worm which will not only help you clean up your computer from all those annoying files, but will also send a copy of itself to all your friends that it finds in your Outlook address book. In short, if you think that your computer is too fast and gives you too little trouble, a virus or two can really help!

Thankfully, you don't have to try too hard to get a virus. Simply connect an unprotected computer to the Internet for a few hours and let them come. That's all it takes.

Tips on How to Protect Yourself

Truth be told, viruses are not as hot as they used to be. It turns out that there's not much money in writing them. This of course doesn't mean that you should neglect the virus threat. There are quite a few dangerous viruses roaming the Internet. So keep your hard drive happy and don't let the viruses ruin your day. Here is what you can do:

1) Use a good antivirus program and update it regularly. Unfortunately, some antivirus products inflict more damage than actual viruses do. So, before getting an antivirus program, be sure to read some professional reviews and user feedback.

2) If you download software from the Internet, use only reputable sources. Scan the installation file with an antivirus program before running it.

3) Be very careful about opening email attachments. Be particularly vigilant if you use Microsoft Outlook.

Free Spyware Remover - Spyware Removal Software

Most people who regularly surf and download applications from the internet are unaware of the fact that there is a good chance that their PC will be infected with spyware. What makes this type of infection so dangerous is that it is designed to monitor and report PC user information to foreign users and can only really be fully removed with a free spyware removal tool. Most people who suspect their computers of having these types of infections will turn to spyware remover programs which are designed to automatically remove infections but how many people know the different ways in which it can infect their PC's?

As briefly explained above spyware is defined as software which installs itself onto your windows operating system without your immediate awareness and quietly monitors your surfing activities, steals information and hacks security settings. Whenever you download a freeware program from the internet the chances are high that it could be bundled with spyware and will consequently infect your PC immediately upon installation. Other ways in which you can become infected are by engaging in instant messaging chats, surfing bad websites and infection via email. Some "bad" websites will trigger background malicious installations while some emails might contain attachments which will infect your PC once they have been opened. Given the fact that spyware is designed to infect numerous system files within your operating system you will have to use a free spyware removal tool if you want to remove the threats completely as manual deletion will not work.

Not All Spyware Is Malicious But Must Be Removed

Some people believe that you may not always need to remove spy ware because it is not always malicious. There are many kinds of Spy-ware that can infect your PC. Most of them are, thankfully, not uploaded with malicious intent. But why take chances. First of all let us analyze how it comes to get onto the system in the first place. People who browse the Internet come across many sites that offer free download. Clicking on these downloads may bring with it some program in the background or hidden from the user. This may be in the form of ActiveX controls or components. When we download certain programs the download program flashes a message requiring the user to allow the download of an ActiveX control without which the download will not work. This ActiveX control is registered in the CLSID files of the registry. Once the download is complete the ActiveX control stored as .OCX file begins its stealthy work. Best Spy-ware removal programs are especially weary of ActiveX controls and remove any malicious looking .OCX files.

Not All Spy ware Cause Damage

Spying program is not always illegal. You may have inadvertently agreed to the use of one by clicking on the 'agree' button without reading the agreement. This kind of Spy-ware, however, does not carry out any malicious activity. It just collects data off all the Internet sites you visit and mails the information to the host where it came from. This does not mean that you cannot remove it when you want. You can do so with certain free Spyware Virus removal programs that search and remove adware and Spy-ware as well. There are malicious and downright criminal software as well. This type of Spying software locates personal information such as that pertaining to your credit card or online bank information and is used for criminal activities usually causing a lot of damage to you. The system must be regularly scanned with free Spyware Adware removal utilities and then the registry cleaned with a registry cleaner to make sure the system is always secure.

Run Anti Spy Software Every Time You Think Of It

Spy-ware can be removed from the system by using anti Spyware programs However the anti Spy software does not remove the entries of such applications from the registry. Special free Spy-ware removal software is required to do just that. Freeware such as Microsoft Spy ware removal tool, Yahoo Spy ware removal utility or any of the free Spy-ware removal tools can scan the registry for broken links and useless entries that are no longer linked to programs. These free tools will then remove these entries from the registry freeing up disk space and registry of unnecessary entries for efficient use.

The Safety Of A Good Anti-Spyware

I have used antivirus products since the DOS and Windows days when antivirus protection was still an "option". Today you not only need AV protection for your PC but you also should have good antispyware and a software firewall. In the old days Norton AV used to be a premium AV program that worked well at a reasonable price. These things are no longer true today and the software security industry has become a multi-billion dollar monster that mostly cares about their own profits before customer interests. Here are some possible solutions.

If you still want to use a Symantec AV product then look into purchasing the latest "corporate version" of Norton Antivirus. I have read that the corporate version is still and excellent program without all the bloatware and bugs of the retail versions. You could also simply use Antispyware 2008 which can still be purchased inexpensively online. But if you have had it with Norton for now and want to jump ship before it completely sinks then I recommend you try Antispyware 2008. There are some other antivirus choices that are also supposed to be good. Don't forget to install a good antispyware program and use a good software firewall or at the very least make sure that the standard Windows XP SP2 firewall is enabled.

Before you install any antivirus alternatives remember to completely, totally, and properly uninstall any and all versions of your other antispyware program from your computer. You can find some helpful information regarding the proper un-installation of these products on their web site. The sad truth is that there are so many hidden and discrete files that the retail versions of Norton AV installs on your computer that some people have reported it to be harder to completely uninstall Norton AV than it is to get rid of a bad computer virus.

Spyware Can Cause You And Your System Irreparable Damage

Spy ware can be described in simple terms as software that performs certain functions covertly on your computer such as collecting personal information, changing the configuration of the computer, and advertising. It is often associated with advertising software or software that generates pop-up ads on the screen when the computer is connected to the Internet. Now this does not mean that all system spies are malicious and causes damage to you by collecting personal information from your system. However, all Spying programs do make changes to the system and cause the registry to grow substantially and ultimately cause the system to slow down to a crawl. They must be removed with the best Spyware removal utilities such as free Microsoft Spy ware Removal Tool.

Is Cleaning The Registry Really Important?

Yes. Anti-Spyware searches and detects any malware operating in the background of the system. It is designed to detect any program that is operating and yet is not associated with the running programs on the system. It can then remove such programs and secure the computer. Many free Adware Spyware removal tools also clean the registry to some extent. However, System Spy software can create entries in the registry in hundreds or even thousands of places. These entries will stay hidden until the it discovers that the exe file is missing. Then the registry entries start to operate and download the necessary files, secretly, from the Internet and the Spy begins to operate again. Some free Spy-ware and Adware removal programs can go into the registry and pull out all the entries associated with programs that have been removed from the system.

Are These Spyware and Adware Removal Software Easy And Inexpensive?

Spyware virus removal software is very easy to operate. In fact, they just take a few seconds to download with a fast Internet connection. Installation takes just a few seconds and you are ready to go. Software such as free Spy-ware and Adware removal is very effective and has all the safety features of a good Spy-ware removal utility. Along with this a good PC spy cleaner can create a back up of the existing registry, which can be restored in case something goes wrong with the cleaning process.

Use Spy-ware Removal Tools Often

Spy removal software should be run on the system at intervals of two to three weeks manually to clean and maintain the system. Many freeware also do a great job and keep the system running perfectly. When you discover that the system has slowed down to an unusual pace run the anti-Spy software and you will be sure to come up with a few hundred if not thousands of infected files that need to be healed by the software.

Spyware Reviews

There is a lot of discussion on the Internet and in the media about spyware at the present. A small industry has grown up in the last few years to produce anti-spyware software to combat this threat.

But whereas all the software companies are good at saying how good their products are, it's not that usual to get spyware reviews from the ordinary guy in the street. So here are my own personal experiences with spyware software.

First of all it is worth pointing out that I have a one-year-old PC but haven't had any cause to think that there may be a problem with it. It's been pretty stable and there has been no noticeable loss in speed or weird pop-ups appearing (all of which can be a sign of a problem with spyware).

After researching the various products available on the Internet, I decided to try Spybot-Search and Destroy. As well as having a great name, this product has a good reputation and a long history. It was created in 2000, which is a long time ago as far as anti-spyware software. It is free to use but there is an option to make a donation to the creator of the software.

Downloading the product was easy. You are directed to a mirror site where you can get access to the download. The program installed first time without a hitch. When I got the program open, it directed me to make a backup of my registry before taking any further action. Your computer registry is a common place for spyware to reside, so this makes sense.

The software comes with a training tutorial and help files. As this is a free program I was quite impressed with this. This is an area where free software creators often take shortcuts.

Then I ran the scanner to detect any spyware that was on my machine. This scan is similar to running an anti-virus scan. The scan took 14 minutes. Some other spyware reviews have reported that the scanning takes up a lot of system resources. I was able to work on documents with the scan running in the background and didn't really notice any lose in performance.

Then it was the moment of truth. 87 spyware programs found on my computer! I was then given the option of deleting these. This is a simple 1-click process.

To update the product there is an updater application that you need to run. You then choose a mirror site to download from and choose the updates that you want to download. Not as easy to use as an automatic updater that does everything in the background, but what do you expect from a free program?

In summary, I found Spybot-Search and Destroy easy to use and it hasn't caused any problems with my computer. I suggest you also read other spyware reviews to see if it is the right choice for you.

What's The Best Freeware Spyware?

There is an array of companies that offer freeware spyware, but which ones are worth the time and effort to install? Here we are going to take a look at this field and discuss some of the best offerings.

Spyware is the collective term for computer programs that can install themselves on your computer without your permission and then record information about you. These programs can snoop on your movements on the Internet and even get access to sensitive information that is on your hard drive such as passwords, credit card details and bank account details.

So how do you know if your machine has been affected? You may notice that the speed at which it works is much slower. There maybe some pop ads that just keep appearing. But what is even more worrying is that infected machines often do not show any outward signs of being affected. So it is best to have your system checked for the presence of spyware even if you haven't experienced any performance problems.

Many people's action in tackling this threat is to turn to freeware spyware. There are a number of programs out there that offer the ability to scan you system for the presence of spyware and then give you the option of removing it. Here are some of the best products in this field.

Spybot - Search and Destroy. This is the 'daddy' in the free spy-ware field having been first developed in 2000 by software engineer Patrick Kolla. It has received many favorable reviews over the years and has a loyal band of users. If you run into problems or have a query, you can use their free discussion forum

AVG Anti-Spyware (Free Edition) is a product from the well-respected Grigsoft software company. This product will allow you to scan your PC for threats and then give you the option to remove them. There is also a professional version that provides the option of real-time detection. This is where spyware is detected before it even infects your machine. This solution will appeal to those who believe in 'prevention is better then cure'. There is a charge for the professional version.

Super AntiSpyware. This is a relative newcomer to the field but has already built itself a solid reputation based on its reliability to remove spyware, adware and trojans. Like the AVG product, there is an upgrade option to the Professional version that allows you to have real-time scanning.

Each of these freeware spyware products will give you a good level of protection against malicious threats. Some people even go to the trouble of installing 2 programs so that any spyware that is missed by one is picked up by the other.

Spyware and the Registry

What is Spyware? This is a big question that many people ask and how does it affect the registry of the computer it installs itself on? Any software that secretly assimilates information about the computer it is installed on and uses the Internet connection of the computer to transmit this information to it's host computer is Spyware. Spyware usually downloads itself onto a computer through the Internet along with some other download that the user chooses. This is intentionally coded into the download for malicious purposes. The Spyware installs itself on the computer and runs in the back ground with the operator knowing it. Usually the only indication of Spyware on the computer is through free Spyware removal programs.

What does Spyware do?

Apart from slowing the system, as mentioned earlier Spyware programs are typically bundled into a program that is available as free ware and are hidden components in the downloaded program. Once the download is complete the Spyware installs itself onto the users computer and begins to monitor all the activities of the user. These can include recording the user name and passwords that the user uses or the kind of sites that the user likes to visit. Spyware always works in the background of the system and so it slows down a computer a great deal. Especially if the resources of the computer are low such as the RAM or disk space. Anti Spyware components are sometimes built into registry cleaners such as the windows registry cleaner or the PC registry cleaner. These programs scan the registry for malicious Spyware as well as for broken links and redundant data. They then clean the registry of this data and leave the computer running more efficiently and fast.

Unfortunately Spyware is not illegal in many parts of the world. So, nothing can be done to the company or person who is responsible for putting it there in the first place. At lease it the information is not used to damage you. The only way is to get some good free anti-Spyware software such as Microsoft Spyware removal tool and clean the system. The process is really simple. When the system has been scanned with some free anti-Spyware or Spyware removal program the Spyware can be removed.

The Best Method of Spyware Removal

Spyware removal is a tedious but necessary chore. At best, spyware slows down your computer and brings up those annoying popup windows. At worst, spyware can monitor your activities on your computer without your knowing, steal vital information from your computer such as passwords and bank account numbers, and even crash your computer. Thus, the removal of spyware, no matter how laborious and time-consuming, is a very important task.

Free Tools for Spyware Removal

To get rid of the spyware plaguing your computer system, you would need to get your hands on software that does spyware removal. If you can afford to buy software for spyware removal, there are a lot of proprietary programs available in the market that can do the job for you.

But if you are not willing to spend money on software, there are also plenty of spyware removal programs that you can download for free from various reliable websites. Some are demo versions of proprietary spyware removal software, while others are free for home use.

Whether you choose to invest on spyware removal software or opt to download free spyware removal tools, there are three programs that you must get in order to rid your computer completely of such malware. These programs are a spyware scanner, an antivirus program and a registry cleaner. The spyware scanner removes the obvious spyware while the antivirus program will get rid of the viruses included in the spyware. The registry cleaner will dredge out the malicious code hiding within your Windows registry.

The Proper Way of Spyware Removal

Below is a step-by-step guide in spyware removal:

Install the spyware removal software that you have bought or downloaded for free - the spyware scanner, the antivirus and the registry cleaner. Once installed, disconnect your computer from the Internet and then run the scan for a first pass.

Once the first pass is done, reboot your computer, run it on safe mode, and do a second pass. Sometimes, spyware include resuscitators that will keep them from being completely wiped out of your system. By running only the essential applications on your computer on safe mode, you can be sure that these resuscitators will not be able to stop your spyware removal software from doing their work.

After the second pass, restart your computer and let it run normally. Check your Internet browser if the malicious websites that were the source of your spyware managed to include themselves in your list of trusted websites.

To prevent spyware from infesting your computer again, set your spyware removal software to do regular runs. Your antivirus software and spyware scanner should be running while you are using your computer to block all incoming malware. As for your registry scanner, you can run it once or twice a month to delete all malicious code hiding in your registry.

Spyware - How To Know Whether Your Computer Is Affected

A spyware is a software that collects information from a computer with internet connection without the owner's knowledge and relays it to another person. The action of spywares is just watching, observing, and collecting. Though most of the times it is done for advertising purposes, some times they are used with malicious intentions. These spywares usually come as hidden components of freeware programs.

The victims of spywares are usually caught unaware. He or she may not know that a malicious software has been installed in their computer without their knowledge and which keeps tracking their vital information. In this modern era of cyber crime where hackers create havoc, it is necessary to know whether our computer is being installed with any spyware with out our knowledge. But of course many software come with the licensing agreement that a spyware will be installed along with the main software.

The spyware usually enters the computer when the user installs some software. The recent mode of entry of the spyware is in the form of "Rogue antispyware" programs. These are projected as security software whereas in reality they cause damage to the computer.

Signs and symptoms of Spyware infection

Spyware never remains an aloof destroyer. More and more spywares get accumulated causing the unwanted effects. The cumulative effect, and the interactions between the different spyware components, causes the stereotypical symptoms as reported by the users. Some of the signs and symptoms that are helpful to know that a computer is infected with spywares are

Frequent unwanted computer activity

Deterioration of the performance of the computer

Exhaustion of memory resources

Slowing down of the computer

Crashing of the computer

Difficulty in getting an internet connection

Pop up ads on a regular basis

Pop up ads even when the user is working offline

Opening up of an unwanted website while the user tries to log on to some particular website

Computer dialing up numbers automatically without the knowledge of the user which is realized only when he gets the phone bill

Unwanted and unexpected search engine doing the search while the user wants to search something using a search engine of his choice

Popping up of websites incessantly while the user tries to log out

Pop up ads and unsolicited emails with the name of the user

Once the user sees any of these symptoms he should realize that his computer is infected with spywares and should take steps immediately to protect his computer before the computer gets infected very badly.

Spyware - How Can You Protect Your Computer From It

Spyware was in headlines for the first time in 1999 when a freeware game called " Elf Bowling" circulated with spying software along with it. Since then spywares are creating a havoc in the computer world. Some of the downloadable software comes with a licensing agreement that a spyware program will be installed along with the requested software. But most of us do not go through the agreement properly.

Spyware exists as independent executable programs. These malicious software have the ability to monitor keystrokes, change the default home page on the Web browser, read cookies, scan files on the hard drive, install other spyware programs and even spy other applications, such as chat programs or word processors. The spywares continuously relay this information back to the person who is spying. He will either use it for advertising/marketing purposes or sell the information to another party.

Steps of protecting your computer against spywares

Protecting against spywares is very essential to safeguard personal identity and other vital information. There are four essential steps that are essential to safeguard your computer against this malicious software.

* Updating the operating system regularly

* Installing an anti virus software and updating it regularly

* Utilizing the firewall software

* Utilizing the anti spyware software

Regularly updating of the operating system

It is always essential to install all security related programs as soon as possible. One of the best ways to do it is by utilizing the automatic update option in the computer. But the problem with this is if the computer components are not genuine but pirated ones, then the automatic updating of the operating system may work. So one has to buy genuine parts and software and keep updating regularly

Installing anti virus software

Anti virus software prevents viruses from getting attached to the programs in the computer and prevent them from corrupting the files. Many reliable anti virus software are available some of which are downloadable for free from the net. But one should regularly update the antivirus software to prevent danger from newer virus threats.

The Firewall utility

Hackers use viruses and Trojan Horses to find unprotected computers and access them to delete information, steal personal information or corrupt the files. Firewall security prevents these hackers from doing these. Three types of firewall security are available

* Hardware routers: for home networks connected to internet

* Wireless routers: for wireless network

* Software firewalls: for single computers

The Anti spyware software

The antispyware software protects the computer from those spying the web browsing habits of the victim, will prevent unwanted pop up windows and prevent uninitiated changes in the computer settings.

Computer Viruses and Good Prevention Techniques

When you get sick, you feel horrible. Your pounding head and sore muscles reminding you that you should have been taking your vitamins. Through out your day simple tasks seem to take forever while other people are afraid of being around you, because they too might get sick. It should be no surprise that computers can suffer the same fate.

Computer viruses were not created by mother nature. The viruses you find on computers are created by people. People that either had malicious intent or were simply curious about how they work. There are thousands of computer viruses around today. A lot of those are mostly harmless and will not destroy your data. However, there are viruses that cost people millions of dollars in damage every year.

The main reasons for computer viruses spreading are ignorance and inaction. A lot of people using computers today in the office don't know much about viruses and how to prevent them. The majority of viruses spread around today are transmitted via email attachments. If you get an email with an attachment be very careful about opening it. If it's from someone you don't know or if it simply looks like something you've never seen before, don't open it. It may say it's harmless or a fun treat but it's probably not. You can always ask someone knowledgeable about it.

There is also a lot of people who just don't care and don't take any precautions to avoid being infected. If you work with one of these people and email them often, you are very likely to get a virus from them if they are infected and you're not protected.

If you don't have any virus scanning software on your computer I strongly suggest you get some. There are free virus scanning programs available on the Internet. Programs like AVG Anti-Virus are available free of charge. A simple Google search will provide your with several solutions.

If you work in an office and don't have any anti-virus software, contact the company IT manager and ask for some or ask if you can install some yourself. Many companies today will be happy to install anti-virus software. Doing so will save them money in the long run. A employee that can't work because the computer in down is not something they want.

Free Spyware Programs - The Essential Facts

Are the free spyware programs on the market any good, or should you just dig into your wallet and go buy a program? You may find the answer surprising. Spyware can cost you thousands in terms of having personal details like a bank account stolen. But there are some excellent solutions out there that will search through your computer to find these programs then give you the option of deleting them - and they won't cost you anything.

Some of the features that you want to be looking for when evaluating free spyware programs are as follows:

Does the product detect just spyware, or will it also find other malware such as adware and trojans?

Although the scanner is free, is there a charge (or upgrade fee) if you want to actually use the software to remove the spyware?

Is the software capable of real-time detection? This is where spy ware is detected before it actually infects your PC.

There are a number of products on the market that have performed well under test conditions. These include Spybot-Search and Destroy, AVG Anti-Spyware, and Super Anti spyware. It is recommended that you carry out some online research to determine which is the most effective product at the present time. The nature of these threats is continually changing and the protection companies always have to play 'catch-up' to stay up with the latest developments.

One thing that you shouldn't be is complacent. Just because your computer has not shown any signs of being affected by spyware yet, does not mean that you are safe. Some of these malicious programs are created exactly so that they do not alert the user that there is anything untoward happening with their computer. This is so the user doesn't try to uninstall the program. Meanwhile in the background the spyware is collecting data about you. Indeed many people are shocked when they perform a scan to find that their computer is infected by so many spyware programs. It's common to find dozens even hundreds on a single machine.

Spyware can be programmed to retrieve all sorts of information such as passwords, details of where you have been on the Internet and information about files on your computer. Using one of the free spyware programs is probably the easiest way to find out if your computer has been affected by spy-ware, and to help protect it in the future.

VirusHeat - Rogue Anti-Spyware Program Ruins PCs

VirusHeat is a rogue anti-spyware program fresh out of the market of popular rogue anti-spyware programs on the Web. VirusHeat is sure to "heat" up your computer with misleading spyware results, browser hijacks, redirects to unreliable websites and further exposure to other malware threats.

VirusHeat is another version of Virusprotect and VirProtect programs that installs through a Trojan called Zlob. Zlob infects a user's system through the download of fake audio and video codecs usually found on porn websites. It is designed to display system warning messages stating that your system has detected a number of active spyware applications. VirusHeat offers users to purchase a full version of the program to remove the detected spyware infections. VirusHeat only reports exaggerated scan results to push the user to pull out his/her credit number and spend money on a product that doesn't promise what it alleges to deliver.

Spyware parasites are updated often with different names and versions. In the case of VirusHeat it is a variant of VirProtect, Virusprotect, VirusProtect Pro and VirusProtect 3.8. usually this group of infections originate from an actual Trojan such as Zlob.Trojan. It is always a good practice to verify the correct spelling version of any download program.

There is an automatic removal method is for non-techie computer users. If you're too lazy to learn about spyware removal or how to access sensitive files in your computer, then this is the method for you. There is also a manual removal method for techie computer users. VirusHeat manual removal may be difficult and time consuming to remove.

Spyware

Spyware is programming that is put in someone's computer to secretly gather information about the user and send them to interested persons. Spyware can get in a computer as a software virus or as the result of installing a new program. Most often this information is a record of a victim's ongoing browsing habits, downloads, or it could be more personal data like the victim's name and address Spyware is part of an overall public concern about privacy on the Internet

What is adware?

Spyware that serves personalized advertisements is called adware. It is also known as malware or scumware.

Malware is an abbreviation used to describe a "malicious software" program. Malware includes things like spyware or adware programs, such as tracking cookies, which are used to monitor a victim's surfing habits. It also includes more sinister items, such as keyloggers, Trojan horses, worms, and viruses. These are mainly used in cases of identity theft.

A keylogger is a program that logs every keystroke the victim makes and then sends that information, including things like passwords, bank account numbers, and credit card numbers to the person who is trying to spy that victim.

A Trojan horse is program that sends the personal information of from the victim's computer to another computer.

Viruses are similar to Trojan horses. The difference is viruses are attached to other programs whereas Trojan Horses are independent programs. Viruses are deliberately designed to interfere with computer operation, record, corrupt, or delete data, or spread themselves to other computers and throughout the Internet

Symptoms of Spyware infection

The victim's computer may show any of the following symptoms that are indicative of a spyware infection.

* Computer programs run very slowly

* Unwanted search engine handling the search

* Unwanted website opens while browsing for some other site

* Offline pop up ads

* Sites appearing repeatedly even after clicking the home button

How to tackle Spywares and adwares?

It is estimated that 90% of all computers on the Internet are infected with spyware.

Spywares can sometimes disrupt or damage the victim's computer. They may collect the personal information of the victim and his identity may be stolen. Anti viruses softwares are useful in safeguarding against these threats. But they should be regularly updated. But these anti virus softwares do not give protection against Trojan horses and spywares. In these instances the best thing to do is to use both an antivirus software and an anti adware software. Along with these firewall software should be installed to prevent personal identity theft.

Removing Spyware And Adware From Your Computer

Some things are certain in life and that goes for the

spyware and adware that will land on your computer. Any

time that you flip on the web, you are prone to download

something, attaching something or just opening a file that

contains it. It is difficult to see how it gets on there,

but it does and in the simplest of terms, it can destroy

your computer when it does. Learning how to effectively

remove it is very important.

Here are some things that you can do to get the spyware and

adware that has infected your computer off of it.

· Purchase and use removal software programs. This is

important as they can detect and remove potentially harmful

data fairly quickly. These software programs are available

in various types but all work at detecting the problems on

your computer. Make sure that you purchase them and use

them. You will want to insure that they are able to remove

adware and spyware as well as detecting it. Look at several

programs and make sure that you purchase the right type.

You will want to invest in a program that will update itself

or allow you to update it.

· Purchase spyware protection. Protection is a type

of program that is always running when you are connected to

the internet. It will safeguard you from spyware and adware

that it recognizes. If you attempt to download something

that is not alright, it will stop you and warn you.

· Run virus checks on your computer as well. These

can detect hidden issues within your computer so that you

are safeguarded. You need to make sure that your virus

protection is continuously up to date as well. This will

help keep you updated as to what is out there.

· It pays to pay attention. Make sure you know what

you are doing on the web and that everyone that uses your

computer does as well. Warn children to never download

anything without your approval. Make sure you know what is

being downloaded. Don't open attachments from people that

you do not know or that would not send that type of email.

· Educate yourself on what spyware and adware is as

well how to notice it when you are online. Even if it isn't

spyware, realizing that the more things you download the

more 'clogged up' your computer is going to be.

· Many of today's internet service providers provide

virus as well as spyware and adware protection. These

services are great for helping you to keep up to date and

keep your computer safe. Some are now offering these

services as free elements to their product. But, it is

important to realize that you still need to keep your

systems up and running as well.

Schedule and run spyware, adware and virus checks often. If

you are online a lot, then it makes sense to do them at

least weekly. You can schedule them to run whenever you

want so make them run at a time when you are not planning to

be online. Make sure to block all necessary issues if you

know them to be virus, spyware or adware files. Staying up

to date and on schedule will help you to keep your computer

free of all of these.

Recent studies show that adware spyware programs have infected over 95% of all computers connected to the Internet. How To Combat Those Nasty Computer Viruses

I bet that you use your computer several times in a single day because I use my computer more than a dozen times per day. While some people use their computers for games. I use my PC and Mac for both work and entertainment purposes. Well, I guess we all work on our personal computers to some extent. We use our computers to check our bank accounts online and pay our bills through the Internet. Of course, we also use it to check our inboxes for new messages.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is that computers have become such a crucial part of our routine lives. Computers are not just useful for amusing web surfing and chat rooms. There's a good chance that you would not function well for a day if you cannot use you're your computer. Being unable to use your PC or Mac can be a shock to your system. However, nasty computer viruses could make this a reality and they can even shut down your system for good.

I just purchased a Mac G4 IBook a few months ago and I immediately noticed something when I used it. I observed that there were no pop-up ads when I use my Mac. You may think that it's not a big deal because your PC has a pop-up blocker on the browser as well. Unfortunately it still fails to block all pop-ups because some of them always manage to slip through the cracks.

I mostly use my Mac when I'm online because a pop-up can really ruin my day. No computer viruses can also slip in with my Mac. However, I can't commend my PC in the same way because some computer viruses occasionally pop up. Fortunately, my computer puts them into quarantine and tries to clean them up. Nevertheless, I would still prefer that my PC will not be infected by computer viruses.

You can now acquire a number of software programs that can help to protect your PC from computer viruses. The Symantec Antivirus on my PC seems to be fairly effective. However, I still prefer the Mac, since there are none to deal with at all. You should get online and see what trials are available right now. You can test some of these anti-virus programs for free. I know that you want to banish those annoying computer viruses from your PC for good.
